The Khmu ethnic group, also known as Khamu, is one of the largest indigenous ethnic groups in Laos, with origins from the Mon-Khmer language family. They have established settlements in northern Laos for a long time, particularly in Oudomxay, Phongsaly, Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Xieng Khouang, and Luang Prabang provinces. The Khmu language has many different dialects that vary by region.
